Plot Summary:Three seems to be a lucky number for this romantic tear jerker. Not only was it the third adaptation of a much loved novel it was also the third film to be shown in colour both of which still stand up today. Set in the Appalachian Mountains we meet two feuding families whove been killing each other for over thirty years, only to have a businessman with plans for a rail road to wander in amongst it all as well as a love triangle that will both cause a massive change for both families. Dated as it is, The Trail of the Lonesome Pine still has a strong enough romance element to keep some interest thanks to Sylvia Sidney as the innocent June Tolliver whose world stops at the bottom of the mountains but is infatuated when she meets someone from beyond it, eventually leading to a shocking death that I didnt even think some directors thought about doing back then. The story might be interesting, but there are times where the film slows down and interest will start to drift, but stick with it and the classic romance may do the job.
